Selected Settings for Cine4, S-Log2, HLG Sony A7111

Hi all,

I have been experimenting and thought I would share more settings. Here is a summary that might be useful for you. For me, I take the S-Log2 (thank you Mark7021) and HLG3 and render as HDR (Vega Pro 16) and Cine4 (as well as PP off and PP1) as 4K. I think the USource Media for HLG3 not so good. Do I have a favorite, maybe. I sort of like the Aron Anderson HLG3 with the modification of the default not far behind. Cody Blue S-Log2 would be next. I must say that out of the camera and PP1 (which seem the same to me) are very good. Cine4 with one of Cody Blue's lut are very nice also. But this is just me at this point and everyone has there own likes so this may not be your list. Importantly, they play well on both HDR and non-HDR TVs.

  • Cody Blue (Cine4):  has nice set of LUTS (e.g., https://sellfy.com/p/N4gI/)
  • Cody Blue (S-Log2):
  • Modification of default HLG3 with Scott Jeschke (
  • Aron J. Anderson (
  • USource Media (

Enjoy,

problem with using someone else's LUTs is that

  • they would have been created to suit a specific camera / settings in mind
  • to suit a specific environment / day / scene / dynamic range
  • to suit a specific mood / outcome.

So not sure how helpful this is going to be, I personally prefer the option to create the LUTs myself in the grade; shooting CINE4 myself, I like using Filmconvert and NewBlue ColourFast2 personally in order to overcome the absence of meaningful CINE/LOG style grading tools in VP.

my current Win10/64 system (latest drivers, water cooled) :

Intel Coffee Lake i5 Hexacore (unlocked, but not overclocked) 4.0 GHz on Z370 chipset board,

32GB (4x8GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR4-2133) XMP-3000 RAM,

Intel 600series 512GB M.2 SSD system drive running Win10/64 home automatic driver updates,

Crucial BX500 1TB EDIT 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD

2x 4TB 7200RPM NAS HGST data drive,

Intel HD630 iGPU - currently disabled in Bios,

nVidia GTX1060 6GB, always on latest [creator] drivers. nVidia HW acceleration enabled.

main screen 4K/50p 1ms scaled @175%, second screen 1920x1080/50p 1ms.

Thank you. Right now I am into HLG and HDR, so there are no Luts. I did try making my own in Photoshop so still working on that. I agree Cine 4 is nice and am looking forward to checking out your advice.
