Selecting A Portion Of A Clip

I used to know how to do this in VV 4.0, but now that I've upgraded to VV 5.0b I cannot reproduce this...

What I'm trying to do is take a video, and select only a part of it. For example, I have 2 video clips of the same person. In each video, this person is in the middle of the screen. In video A, she has the camera facing towards her front. In video B, she has the camera towards her back. I want to cut away just her from each video, and then place them side-by-side for the final output.

If anyone knows how to do this in VV 5.0b you'll be a godsend :-)

This can work in exactly the same way as V4 - so if you remember that... do that!

Basically you can use the cookie cutter FX on each event and then use track motion to re-position the video to the appropriate spot.

In V5 you <can> do it differently - there is the whole new Bezier masking tool that is part of the pan/crop tool. You use this instead of the cookie cutter part described above.

When you say "cut away," then normally that means using the Bezier mask. However, if you simply want to place both videos side by side, then put them each on a different track, and then use the track motion tool (found on the track header at the left of the screen) to position each video where you want it.

Could someone walk me through the steps for this? I know you say it's the same as it was in VV 4 but I honestly can't get it working in VV 5. Or if there's a tutorial online that'd be great too.

If you're using a black and white mask, it is different in Vegas 5 than in Vegas 4. I have discussed these differences in my newsletters. Try these steps:

Track 1: B&W generated media mask
Track 2: Image to show through White
Track 3: The shot of them in the scene
Click the Parent/Child button on Track 2
Change the "Compositing Mode" of Track 1 to "Multiply (Mask)" (NOTE: This in the one on the RIGHT - NOT the "Parent Compositing Mode")
On the B&W image, add the "Sony Mask Generator" effect.

Are you wantng a split screen, an image on each side? if so , this is real easy, use pan and crop to reduce and center image to her size,ie 360x480, then use track motion on each track to center image on each side of screen
