selecting in trimmer window

Hello all,

I downloaded Vegas 5 as a trial, and now trying to learn how to use it.
It feels wonderfull how this program works, before I used premiere 6 but this is so much better.
However I have a little problem that I can not solve, I did a search on this forum without any result.
I'm trying to ad a selection from the trimmer to the timeline, it works fine when I drag a selection in the ruler, then both time and the part that I want to add to the timeline get selected and with a simple click A, voila.
But according the manual I can also while playing the clip, press I or [ and o or ] to make the selection and then continu with the rest, this doesn't work, only a timeselection is made in this way.
I also tried another one, first I selected the clip or part of it then while playing I press i or [ for the beginning (which works fine) but then when I press o or ] where I want the end of the selection the yellow marker of the loop region simply jumps back to the first on.

What am I doing wrong, or is there something different in the trial version besides the dissabled MPEG output?

Thanks in advance

Robert, it may be that you are changing focus from the Trimmer to the timeline before pressing A.
Play the file in the Trimmer, press "I" for the IN point, press "O" for the Out point. then press "A" to add. You can also press TAB while in the Trimmer to change focus to Video Only, Audio Only, or Audio/Video.
Hope this helps?

Hello DSE,

Thanks for helping me.
I tried what you suggested but it does not work, I also tried by pushing the "add media" button (selected a video track before), in this way I'm sure the focus is on the trimmer window, right? No luck this way also.
I think the problem is that part of the clip does not get selected (highligted) in the above way, when I select by dragging in the markerbar (grey area above the time ruler) of the trimmer, the loop and part of the clip gets selected, then it works fine.

I just found out that by choosing "select loop region" (shift Q) from the markerbar selects what I need, and it works ok in this way.
I thought I could do without? Is there some setting that I should click, I can not find any?

Thanks again.

Robert and DSE,

I am having this same problem (Vegas 5b). In the trimmer I am only able to select by dragging the cursor. If I press [ or i, then advance to a different frame both the "in" and "out" parts of the cursor move to the new frame. In other words, the "In" portion of the cursor doesn't stick to the frame where I marked the beginning of my selection. There must be a setting for this somewhere but darned if I can find it. Anyone?

Thanks,
jerry
