Selection Edit Tool not behaving as expected

I'm using Vegas 8 and I must have hit a button or something but the Selection Edit Tool (d d) isn't working the way I'm familiar anymore.

Rather than selecting clips from, say, the top left to bottom right, it's selecting ALL clips from the start of the selection to the end, regardless of whether or not I select the actual clip.

ie: I only want to select video from a to b, but now I select video AND the music track running below, which is not what I'm after.

Thoughts?

I don't know if I follow what you're asking in your first question--but have you tried clicking on the Ignore Event Grouping button (Ctrl + Shift + U) to see if you can deselect the audio track?

You're right I'm not terribly clear.

It's not an event grouping issue per se as I understand it.

I want to select video and it's associated audio and move it left or right, while leaving a music soundtrack on A2 un-moved.

In the past I could d+d then select from the top-left to the bottom-right leaving music alone (unless I explicitly included it in my top-left to bottom-right selection). That's not the case anymore. ANY media between my IN and OUT is selected whether I dragged my selection box down or not.

There seems to be a dotted line at the IN and OUT of my selection which I don't recall was there before.

Have you tried holding the LEFT button down and clicking on the right mouse button repeatedly, so see if the behavior is more like you want? Take a look at the Help Menu, and under the index type "Selection Tool" and then look at the 'Selection' topic.

But what is the 'A2' which you referenced in your second post though?

Right! That's an Avid throwback. I'm referring to music on a track separate from the audio/video I'm trying to slide down.

However, thank you for your help. A restart of the app seems to have set things straight.

Ah, OK. Well then it's easy--just select the event you want, with either a Shift + click on the end event to get them all, or a right-click and choose Select Events to End, and move away. Sounds like you got it working though--I thought you were trying to do something else with a different Selection Edit tool, and I misinterpreted you.

Glad it's working for you.
