So what you're saying is that you're not smart enough to SELECT THE AREA AND DROP AND DRAG to the timeline from the trimmer, so Vegas is junk? I (and most people) can do it no problem.

Have you considered that you don't have the mental capacity (or the hand-eye coordination) to understand how to use the trimmer (and perhaps Vegas) and you should go to something that is easier to use, such as a crayon and paper?

Sorry to be so harsh, but just returning the favor.

You're negative opinion of Vegas is in the minority

I'm sorry that you are having a problem. Are you using VV3 or VV4? I use the trimmer in VV3 without any problems.

I have spent a lot of time and money on video software that turned out to be total crap. And, their support was next to nothing. One forum I belonged to was nothing but a bitch page, and total waste of time.

This isn't the case with Vegas Video. When I have a problem or a quesiton, I use the "search" feature at the top of the page. If I can't find the specific answer I need, I ask. Usually, within minutes I get two or three helpful responses. This hasn't been my experience with other products.

Instead of blowing-off, when you have a problem, just post a question. The guys and gals in this forum are the best (and so is Vegas), and they know what they are talking about.

Drag the selection onto the timeline (put your cursor in the middle of the selection and drag - pretty intuitive really). From what I gather, a lot of people don't even use the trimmer (myself included), they just edit right on the timeline by splitting/dragging the ends of events.

There was a famous chimp called zippy---I bet you we could have taught him how to place a trimmed clip on the timeline!
RedEyeRob wrote on 5/22/2003, 11:01 PM
Yo Zippy,

Do yourself a favor and just admit you missed the boat on this one and maybe over-reacted a bit. Everyone will forgive you because they have all done some stupid stuff too. Eat some humble pie now and you will get help from these guys the next time you need it. Fail to eat the pie and you may have to change your username to get some help.

3 keystrokes in Trimmer

i = in
o = out
a = add to timeline at cursor position

Ermmm...

"You'll all be using another editor in the future anyway. Sony will can this product. You know, I know it, we all know it!

1 - I don't know I will be using another NLE in the future

2 - I don't know Sony will "can this product"

3 - As you say..., "I know it" Do you now. Perhaps you may wish to illuminate us and Canopus - now bundling their new, sounds great, all in one card for conversion/s - with your source of information. I'll bet they'll give you a job in the crystal ball department. - Let me see, how much would it cost interms of investment would it be for Canopus to do such a thing?

I must say, Zippy, you have raised some truly intersting points - not least of those would be SoFo staff members who work tirelessly in constructing contracts with partners .... like Canopus, Sony etc . . .

Oh yes, in the future refrain from speaking for or on behalf of myself, and I'll give you the same respect.

Peace and love,

Grazie

Oh, by the way, did you get a solution to your original problem? - I've found the people here and SoFo support doing a truly spiffing job on supporting us.

Futz! Brilliant . . . forget "where's the Trimmer" - WHERE's the DVD authoring....and the 5.1 audio - AND the A:B roll editing feature . . . perhaps Sony should scoop this up too!

This is too much fun for a Friday morning.

Humble pie it may not be, but there's a long way from "Vegas is junk" to "There's definite room for improvement!". And like you say, you are entitled to an opinion.

People who have come to Vegas from other apps often mention the unusual interface or work-style. But once they get used to it they say it's superior to what they had before.

You have to wonder, don't you?

Let's see now. There's a fully functioning demo available, and all the manuals can be downloaded. Apparently Zippy's problems with the software are so severe as to make this a non-starter for him.

Scenario 1) Zippy is only using the demo. OK. So he won't buy it. His choice. His opinions have no relevance to the rest of us who are quite happy. His inability to read the manual is his loss.

Scenario 2) Zippy bought the software. Well, it was dumb to buy it without trying the fully functioning demo wasn't it? Or he could try reading the manual.

Ho hum.

Aside from the fact that Zippy is obviously trying to get a rise by talking in absolutes, I still think that V4 is harmed by it's rather "unique" cursor scrubbing / selection behavior. Can you adjust to it? Sure. Does it turn off some number of new users? I think so. The first time I tried a demo, not being able to scrub like I could in any other video app gave me a less than positive opinion. Obviously, if you start using it, you find all sorts of other positive attributes.

I still believe that V4 (V5?) could be significantly improved by including mainstream support for plugins (titling applications), and a revised cursor control with full video and audio scrubbing. As it stands, it is only excellent, not completely dominant!
BillyBoy wrote on 5/23/2003, 10:58 AM
LOL! I wish all my OTHER software was "only" as excellent as Vegas.

It rarely crashes.
It is intuitive.
You don't have to fight with the interface.

Hint: Vegas is as good as it is, BECAUSE it does some things differently To put it another way if Vegas was just another editor that done everything the same old clumsy way, there would be little reason to try it. Obviously a lot of people have tried it and once they do, they can kick the Avid, FCP and "P" habit. Like chain smokers, they know its bad for them, a really bad habit, one that's hard to stop and it may take several attempts. In the long run, its well worth quiting. So too with using a BETTER editor.

Zippy is very much well entitled to his opinion ... but we are as well entitled to ignore him, no ? Why then, 22 messages in this crappy (yes) thread ??
Is like me going to Zippy's house and say "Well Zippy thanks for receiving me, it's quite hot isn't it ?" or else "Zippy, your manners are crap, I had to bring the scotch myself and you don't even fix me a glass neither ice. What a schmunck!!". In what of the two situations will you be welcome next time ??
Okay, now I am going to press that "ignore this user" button for the first time ...

Please don't feed the troll.

No software works exactly like *everybody* would want it to for their particular editing style and personal education and/or patience to learn the software.
