Sadly I hear 24F and 25F is still a no go on any Sony HDV deck.
I'm pretty certain all the interlace formats are OK.

Would have been nice if it wasn't so, Sony would have had a big PR bonus.

That's correct. Sony blew it. Badly, IMO. M25u and M15u do not play back either of the F formats. Silly, dumb, etc. it would have been a major coup for the 1080 support squad.

I'd go further and say politically it could have helped changed the way Sony is currently seen in the marketplace. Their focus is just too broadcast oriented. Sure that's a big slice of the pie but the pie is getting smaller.
The amount of content being produced by the networks is shrinking, it's way cheaper for them to buy content from independant producers than make it inhouse.
What's now making it hard for broadcasters is they're being pressured to be able to ingest anything, HDV, DVCPro XX, a zillion variant file types off an eclectic collection of media etc, etc. Sony have the engineering clout to make this possible and make a bundle in the process. At the moment the dub houses are probably making a killing out of this hotch podge of competing technical standards but it will not take long for someone to untangle the mess, it could be Sony, it should be Sony but based on past performance I'm not giving odds on it.

Of course this is just my view from down here, maybe things are different elsewhere.

Thanks for this info, guys. Sad info indeed, but not "intollerable." For me, that is. Most of what I do is for cable commercials, so I shoot 60i. If I do want to shoot in 24F or 25F, I can always use the camera as my sourse for those few projects.

Stil, I completely agree that if Sony had held off another few months and implimented that into their new decks, I'd guess their sales would have greatly benefited.
It would be just my luck that if I get the M25U, two months down the line, they'll come out with the M35U that does it all. This seems to be my pattern.
