You mean "wipe" or dissolve?
There was / is a proper luminance dissolve pluin around somewhere.

Leslie -

The Video FX, Transitions, and Media Generators windows all have a search bar at the top. Have you tried searching "luminance" there?

Maybe you're looking for Luminance Mask? It's in Video FX > Mask Generator > Luminance mask.

sorry bob, meant dissolve.....

using a riot gear black to white .mov (very sort of organic).

smluminance has a radio button for video, but no explanation of how to use it, unless of course it's simply referring to using the existing clips as luminance....

thanks again.

From memory one of those dissolves lets you use say a still image as a mask for the dissolve, is that what you're looking for?
If so and only from very dim memory you cannot use video as the mask for the dissolve i.e. you can have a dissolve betwee two video events with a still as the mask, you cannot have a dissolve between two video events with another video event as the mask.

Mind you with a bit of compositing argy bargy you could just build what you want in Vegas. That'd be OK if it was a one off, mighty tedious if you want to do it more than a couple of times..

hi paddy,

i've checked out all the various fx, but still can't find anything that'll work with a b&w video rather than a still image.

just in case i'm not being too clear (a habit of mine unfortunately)....

i have two clips and want the second to be revealed by a gradient (black to white) video clip (riot gear). there's NO problem simply dropping a jpg /png image and using that as the dissolve, much like those supplied with pixelan spice, but i can't seem to fathom out how to do this using video instead of a still....

ah, thanks bob, i was obviously in search of the holy grail......

ok, i'll live with using a still - especially since i want to use it fairly often.

Sounds like maybe what you're looking for is one of the 2-1 compositors - layer the two video clips on separate tracks, on the top track, change the Compositing mode to Custom, then select the desired transform (Bump map, Displacement map, or Height map). Automate the parameters as desired to create the dissolve effect.

best,
