Separate channel 1 from channel 2 audio on atrack?

How do you separate channel 1 from channel 2 when they're on the same audio track?

I did a test using the internal mic on the camera on channel 1 for ambient sounds and an external mic in input 2 on channel 2 for dialogue. All audio remained on one track when imported into Vegas. What if I want to get rid of channel 1 audio.

When I right click the audio track and select channel all I see is one option "channel 1/2"

Duplicate the audio track.
Right-click one of them & select "Channels - Left Only".
Right-click the other one and select "Channels - Right Only".

HERE, a script to do this task.

Thanks.

I see removing one channel throws the audio out of balance to one side. When you duplicate the track it puts the channel onto both the left and right side again.

If you do as suggested, you'll end up with two mono tracks, one for ambient and the other for dialog.
Being that they're now mono, everything will be centered so I'm not sure how or why it would get "out of balance to one side".
