seperating audio and video tracks

I figured out how to delete part of an audio track but when I try to join the split sections the video tracks move along with the audio and do a crossfade on the video. I want the vid to stay the same while combining the audio. Can someone explain this to me.

Select the Audio, press U (ungroup) when you've moved the audio select the Video and Audio together and press G to group them again.

Or use the iIGNORE GROUPING function. Icon at the top.
