You can set your File/Properties/Video tab to "Adjust source media to better match project properties or render settings." That affects media added to the timeline before any key frames are applied.

You can also select Options/Preferences/Editing and select "Automatically crop still images added to timeline." This too affects your still before any key frames are applied.

Well, after 6 years of Veggin', I didn't know that - actually spaced it out.
In fact, I would probably embarrass myself with the Grand Poubah Vegas Yodas here were it known what I still don't know - lol.

Nonsense. I have used Sony Vegas almost daily since Version 3 and I am still learning. What's scary is that I've probably forgotten more than I've learned.

Timeline Tools also has a feature that can set all keyframes of selected events to Match Output Aspect.
