Setting Markers for Chapters

Dazza wrote on 3/9/2009, 8:49 PM
I have a project made up of a number of individual, short, clips and I would like to have seperate chapters for each clip. It would seem to me that to set markers for each clip in Vegas then render for DVDa where the scene selection function could be used to create "thumbnails" for each. The difficulty is that, as far as I can gather, I would have to set each of these markers manually, a fair bit of work. Does anyone know of an easier way to achieve this please....thanks in advance.

How many clips? Line them up on the timeline, then click the cursor on the timeline at the beginning of the first clip. Press M to set a marker, then Ctrl-Alt-right-arrow to advance to the next clip. Press M, then Ctrl-Alt-right-arrow to advance. Repeat ... If your clips aren't perfectly butted up against each other you might have to advance twice to get to each clip.

You could probably do a couple hundred in a minute once you get into the groove.

You can also put each clip into DVD-A separately and then insert a "Playlist" from DVD-A (Right click on DVD-A screen and select 'insert Playlist') and set up the clips to play in any order you want. You can even include multiple playlists, and each could play in a different order.
This way they can watch the entire DVD or go to each clip individually and all can be placed on the 1st menu page. (I usually put in the 'Playlist' before I add any clips, this way the Menu will default to the playlist as first choice, when it's made. I can fix the Playlist after adding clips using the tab at the bottom of DVD-A next to "Timeline" tab)

The only drawback to doing it this way is some older players take 2 or 3 seconds to jump to the next clip. All computer players jump immediately (that I've tried).

Thanks TGS, because of the delay on some players I prefer the marker before render option. I've also discoved that Ultimate S will set markers for each clip "at the press of a button", amazing what you find if you look. Thanks for your input.

Alternatively, just drop all the individual files into a music / video compilation in DVDA. It will stick them all in a single title and assign a chapter marker to each one. To get your thumbnails, right-click the compilation's button on your menu and choose Insert Scene Selection Menu.

All kinds of methods available.
