I am using a Canon C100. The video it makes is rich and very dynamic. When I open those files in Vegas 18, this morning - the image is milky, ultra shitty looking and not at all what i am seeing when playing the same video away from Vegas, like in the graphics card window. Question: is there a preset for Canon C100 video that will use the Canon profile and not the Vegas profile as a starting point?

You should check your Canon camera's webpage to see if there's a technical LUT for that camera. If there is, then paste it into a folder on your computer and access it in Vegas Pro via VP's LUT FX (in that LUT you'll need to drill down to the folder where the LUT is placed in order to select that LUT).

Here tis: https://www.canon.com.au/support/sims-content?pid=12671c48db5a428db3273a9e8ae43a60&cid=6AB7C75771504DCFA6ED41009D528CCB&ctype=ap

.. took seconds to find.

Technical LUTs 'adapt' the native camera video image to an image more compatible with NLEs. Technical LUTs should not be confused with 'looks' LUTs which typical offer color-grading to replicate the 'look' of a feature film or TV series. More information about LUTs can easily be found via a Google search but here is one:

Please be aware that the forum's community rules forbid the use of coarse language and some on the forum in recent times have indicated their objection to words like one word that you used in your post (btw: not me). Nonetheless, I would think that your command of the English language is good enough to provide a better description of what the image looks like, and that includes uploading an image of the preview screen to your post which will make it abundantly clear what you are seeing.
