sfvidcap could not open

NOKNOT wrote on 10/17/2011, 5:08 PM
Didnt know if I needed to post in my original thread or start a new one. I have had trouble with Platinumn10 since going to new Computer. The last time I tried to run it I got an error saying:

An error occurred while loading the project file
c:/xx/xx/xx/xx//default.sfvidcap
The file is an unsupported format.

I got this message after plugging camcorder and choosing DV format. After having so much trouble I downloaded trial version Platinum 11 and after installing got the same message. Hope you can help, thanks.

I posted in your other thread, this error is most likely because you're trying to capture via USB.

Do you need to start off capturing with all the clip info from the last time? Or are you willing to start off fresh with no prior clip info? Note that if you choose the latter, all the clips you captured will still be there, they just won't show up in the captured clips window in VidCap.

So, if you're willing to start fresh, just cancel when it tries to open the file. VidCap will run perfectly fine. Immediately save a new .sfvidcap file over the old bad one and then you won't get that error again.

Personally i never use .sfvidcap files and most likely never will, but i still have to deal with VidCap asking me about it every time i start and quit. I wish there was a setting to just make it go away. Let me save one or open one when i want to, but otherwise just stop trying to load it. *sigh*

Thanks all. Chienworks, in other words when the error comes on just hit cancel and start from there or go back and click the camcorder icon in toolbar and go from that point/ Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to answer you MSmart in last post. My problem is I take things for granted. I made sure they understood that all I used the PC for was mainly working with my home videos. I was told this computer would be more than I needed. When I got it I was surprised it didnt have a firewire. After researching it doesn't have a slot for one.

bummer.

I too, just ignore the vidcap warnings and never save the project.
