sfvidcap & live capture questions

The Setup:
We shoot in our small studio and capture directly to Sony Vegas on the computers Hard Disk via firewire cable from the cam to the PC.

For this project we have a number of sessions and shoot about 20 or 30 short video's... about 30 seconds each... at each session.

We shoot each 30 second take... then stop... so it is a seperate AVI file... so we end up with 20 to 30 AVI files for each session.

The Questions:
1 - If the talent flubs a line we click Stop... to delete the file... Vegas then ask us... as one of the choices... "Delete All... well if we have already shot and saved a number of clips in that session we thought that Vegas would delete all the clips shot so far... it didn't... but we are now confused about the button "Delete All" after we click Stop at the end of each live capture.

2 - We are never sure what is in the Default.sfvidcap file... so we never save it when Vegas ask... we just shoot all our clips... then drag the AVI's into another folder for post production... I have actually saved a .sfvidcap as Test.sfvidcap... and live captured a few clips... but can't really tell what the file is keeping up with for the the capture project.

Thanks for any educational assistance on these :)

1) Delete All deletes all of the scenes that were captured where a scene is a break in timecode (i.e., the starting and stopping of the camera). Once you stop the capture, everything that was captured from the time you pressed record is what Delete All sees. If you start a new capture, the previous capture is not included in the files Delete All sees. So Delete All deletes everything from the last time you pressed record to the time you pressed stop which could be several files if there were timecode breaks. If you are ever confused, just press the Show Clips button and those are the clips that Delete All is referring to.

2) The .sfvidcap file holds the session information for the capture. If you started and stopped at certain timecodes, or used batch capture, those timecodes are saved in the file. This way you can load a .sfvidcap file and recapture from a tape with frame accuracy.

Hope this helps,

jr, That helps a lot.

In this case we do not start and stop the cam... we sit in front of the computer with Vegas... and just click record and stop...

Thanks again.

My impression has been that "Delete All" deletes clips that you have not renamed and are still named (unknown). It does not delete clips i've renamed.
