shadows in 3d aspect

Rory Cooper wrote on 7/27/2008, 11:26 PM
Hi all

I worked on some 3d stuff this weekend and battled with the shadows in 3d

if I have 3 pages and want to place them together as a card how do I do this and keep the shadow tab options available

The clip is at Vimeo. Vegas group, rory cooper

No shadows on the toucan cause I couldn’t get it right, pity that would have made that intro
when the shadow does appear its on the video clip on another layer

thanks guys I know its Monday and you don’t really need this
please feel free to throw old food and other slimy stuff at me

Rory

If I got this right. Insert a track above the track that has the track motion Composite Mode set to 3d Source Alpha, parent the lower one to the top one, click on the "Parent Motion" icon on the top layer, click the 2d shadow button in there.

Hope that works for ya.

Shot Thanks Ray

Except it’s the child that sets the shadow

So each individual child has its own shadow

but this is where Vegas got it wrong if I have 3 individual 3d child tracks combined into a master 3d parent track
then their shadows would be controlled by the parent track right
not independent 3d children tracks the shadow movement then does not make sense

This is really difficult to get a handle on Rory?

Are you sure you are using Parent Motion?

What ISN'T looking correct for you? You have asked a series of rhetorical questions, and I am getting myself even more confused - I need to know what it is you are trying to achieve and just what you have achieved already, yeah?

So the work around would be to animate your 1st 3rd track layer shadow and copy past the keys into your other 2 tracks so that it would appear that you have one light source

Hi Grazie

thanks for your help as usual

OK I want to make a 3d card like my clip on vimeo but the shadows aren’t working

I am up to the point that I can make the 3 shadows individually which have to be animated individually

How do you rotate 3 pages together in 3d space that the shadows are linked into one shadow as in real life? So that the parent 3d controls all shadows

buy the way i need some more ideas i will email you some jpegs

thanks
Rory

Ok sorted

Place your page , make child , add your shadow, make the parent 3d, do this for all your pages

Make all 3d parent of one master parent 3d no shadows cause you can't.

Open new session import the above project [ nesting] now add your shadow make child make the parent 3d
and the shadow will be in 3d aspect one light source

All pages will have the correct shadow and light source and all 3 pages will have a 3d master shadow

thanks for help everyone
