"shaky" video when slow motioning

shackrock wrote on 6/9/2002, 1:28 PM
whenever i make video slow motion...wheather through the ctrl+drag functrion or the velocity envelope function....the final product (when made to .avi or printed to tape, etc.) ALWAYS seems to be really shaky. It never comes out how it would, say, in a real movie...lol.

i know that may not be possible..but you would think it would be at least less shaky...anyone know what i mean?

Right-click on all the slo-moed events on the timeline, then check the "resample" box. SAVE...
NOW, render.
This should work.

When I started using Vegas Video, I also had problems with slow motion and was grateful that someone gave me the answer. Slow motion is one of the more obscure tools as there does not seem to be a clear answer in the 360 page manual. Al lest I haven’t discovered it.

I have spent some time looking this one up in the Forum search, however the reason why it is necessary to resample for slow motion is not explained.

I am grateful that I received a reply and wasn’t told to go search. I feel the Forum should be a friendly place where any question can be asked. After all you don’t have to answer if you are irritated by the question.

There is a excellent tutorial on velocity envelope and how it works in Vegas Video3 at: www.CreativeCOW.net
You can get there through Sonic Foundry Tutorials.

In a short: when you "stretch" an event, it's like you placed more "space" between the frames in your clip. But you will "read" these spaces too when you make a playback (remember, the playback itself won't change speed...) The "resample" option takes two of these frames, and "creates" two more "artificial frames" with a more continuous movement between the two original frames. Yes, it "creates" 'em, e.g.: creates two *new frames* according to the difference between the first and second frame (originals). That's why it's so more fluid after the resample.

So from: O O O O O O O (stretched event)
You get: OooOooOooOooOooOooO ("o" being the "resampled" frames...)

Mmmm... is that clear?

I'm with you 100% Erick. The whole point of this forum is to ask questions share ideas and just chat. Nobody has to answer if they don't want to and more importantly nobody should be afraid to ask out of fear of being scolded or thinking they asked a "dumb" question or thinking they broke some rule someone foolishly thinks they can enforce.

I have suggested other people try Search a time or two. I and others that have word it as a SUGGESTION, GG takes a tone that sounds more like a commandment. I don't like that. I don't think anyone likes to be ordered to go use Search or read the manual before you ask a question, especially when its just another user giving what sure sounds more like an order rather than making a suggestion.

It seems GG is more grumpy than usual the last few days. He always has got upset if he thinks someone added to his comments or offered a way to do things differently that he thinks in his mind he already covered or his idea is "better". Heck, just a couple days ago he complained I did that and he also whined I do this too much: <wink> Talk about being petty.

Well I'm not going to go on and on. GG has contributed a lot to this forum. I'm sure he's a nice guy. For sure I removed any doubt how I feel about his lord and master of the forum routine. I doubt I'm the only one that noticed. Maybe he'll tone it down. A forum can flourish if there is an ongoing exchange of ideas with nobody afraid to express an opinion or ask a question, no matter how many times it may have been answered in the past. On the other hand a forum can quickly stagnate if one or two guys sit on a throne an issue proclamations.

There you go again GG...you ARE doing it again. That's my whole point. I'm sorry you think I somehow violated what you foolish think is your right to ride herd on everyone else. One of your problems seems to be you needing to have the last word on every topic. The one trying to dicate is YOU buddy. You don't see me or anyone else giving orders like use Search or go read the manual before asking a question.

People learn in differnt ways at different speeds. For sure I don't know everything. Neither do you, yet I get a very strong impression you think you do. I see control freaks like you in lots of forums and newsgroups. You're right about that. The question really is why do you think you have some right to dicate how others post to this forum or get all bent out of shape if someone adds to what you already said?

The one needing to make personal attacks seems to be you GG, as you just demonstrated again. You're just a prima donna GG. No, I don't have much use for people with that personality trait.

Now tell people the truth. You threatened to stop posting before, that's for sure. Have you forgotten the real reason you yourself gave? I'll remind you. You threatened to not post anymore and whined like a little baby when Sonic Foundry made some minor changes in the forum software. Being the self-imporant jerk you really are you said you would stop posting if they didn't immediately change it. That's the real you GG, my guess was Sonic didn't consult you before they made that change and that really pissed you off which seems to happen a lot.
