sharing templates between pc's

Has anyone figured out how to move a saved template from
one pc to another?

I want to share all my output templates with someone. The
templates are apparently stored on a 'per user' basis in
folders under Vegas. One annoying thing that I've noticed
is that if I log in as a different user, I can't access any
output templates that I created previously.

I can see that they are stored in .sft files. The obvious
solution of copying the files from one pc to another or
even from one user's template folder to another doesn't
seem to work. The templates simply don't show up as a
choice in Vegas even though they are sitting in the correct
folder.

So has anyone figured this one out?

I can't be the only one who wants to do this, so just to
answer my own question...

If you want to share templates, you have to grab the .sft
files that Vegas writes to your hard drive when you create
a template. You also need the registry entries that are
associated with those .sft files. They are located here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic Foundry\FileIO]
You can just export the whole FileIO branch.

Then re-import it on the pc that you want to share the
templates with. Copy the .sft files into the proper folder
and you should have the templates available from Vegas.(you
may have to modify the strings in the .reg file in order to
match the new location of your sft file)

Please make sure you know what you are doing. If you
aren't familiar with working in the registry, then it is
advisable to leave it alone unless you are prepared to re-
install your OS. You have to learn somehow ;)
