Sharpen problem

I'm doing a video for a friend and I imported a VHS tape which was of the usual bad quality.After I put it in the timeline, I used the SHARPEN tool on it to see if I could improve it. It did not improve. But when I next played the tape, the sound and video were out of sync. I tried it again from the gitgo and got the same problem.

So...has anyone else had this problem or is there a fix or workaround? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the sync problem, however, you can do much better than the sharpen effect. Take a look at:

Basically, you duplicate your track, add a convolution filter to the first, select the "sharpen" option, blend with "hard light", and adjust the opacity of the first track to taste. Much better than sharpen and more control.
