My format of choice for distribution these days is a 30p 16:9 SD DVD. I go through a few hoops to achieve this: shooting 1080i, capturing with HDV Split, rendering Gearshift proxies, editing in SD and rendering from the original m2t clips to 30p mpeg2.
It seems to me like, aside from losing a little color space, I could accomplish the same thing by shooting Cineframe 30 and capturing with the camera in SD downconvert mode. This should theortically give me SD 30p widescreen with full 720 x 480 resolution.
Has anyone else tried this?
