Short Films

mark2929 wrote on 4/17/2004, 4:52 AM
I was just wondering if anyone has any short Film Scripts. That I / We could perhaps use. On a non Commercial Basis. To Maybe enter into some of the Competitions, Chienworks ect. It could also be a great way for writers to get there Work seen In A Limited way:) And give Me Something constructive to do with Vegas 5.. Perhaps even Some of the Composers "Here" MIGHT Allow use of Certain Music. As a way of getting free Publicity and helping The Film MAKERS... It could be uploaded as resources Only For amatuer Films and Not for Profit On Chienworks. If Kelly is OK About doing it... Non Profit Only..... the Moment Money is being made, then all Copyright rules apply. The Intent here is that every One COULD Benefit From Having their work seen. One of the biggest uses of Vegas is to Make stories through Editing ...Im surprised No One Has had the idea to perhaps sell copyright free scripts to People Using NLEs..

Just an Idea !

http://www.mindspring.com/~mmm/10point.html has scripts for sale online.
http://www.dramashare.org/
http://www.whiteslade.freeserve.co.uk/scripts.htm
http://www.geocities.com/playintheroad/freescripts.html

These are all performance royalty-free scripts. I've got 22 links for free scripts in my Favorites, so there must be at least 10 times that many out there.
Chienworks already has a location for royalty-free music to be uploaded as well.
All in all, it's a great idea to help folks get started.

Spot Thanks for the Links Although the first dident seem to work the next two were Religous Plays (I Wouldent Mind Making Religous Plays at some Point ) And the last one you have to send the Film in for Aproval And they all seemed more for the theatre. I Know ! you can always adapt !

I Apreciate the Links :) What Im looking for is More For Amatuer Film Makers. Perhaps Amatuer Scriptwriters Musicians whose work is not Professional yet.... I Bet for every script that gets Published there are another 99 That dont.. Then disapear.. Well Imagine If those Scripts could be Used.. By Amatuer Film Makers, who would pay royalties IF the Film made Money. Or Split the Profits. On a PERCENTAGE Basis. But at an Amatuer level then No One Gets Paid, If the other dosent.. "Who Knows" Script/ Music that Otherwise would disapear, could find Fame or Perhaps Used in A book of Scripts for Film Makers.

I know you have Uploaded/ Donated a Song On Chienworks Pachabels canon.. Thanks For that ! But also With Acid Ect there must be a lot of Composing going on That Also will never become Known..

Anyway Im thinking Forward to Vegas Becoming evermore Popular.. Pooling the Film Makers with the Composers, And Script writers......Then *Chienworks* To Air It all On.. This Could Become a very Powerfull reason to Improve Your Skills..And make Spielbergs of us all At an Amatuer Level of Course..

Have you ever been to
Trigger Street

Hunter" I have" I would really like to Put a well made Film up there. Some of the Films are just One step from Professional. So it would be great to Represent Vegas..

As Alfred Hitchcock Used to Say The three most Important things in Making a Film Is Script Script AND UUuum I forgot..

This may sound odd....but last year we did a project with some high schoolers in the English lit programs. The school publishes a once-a-year journal called "Runes." It had 12 really good short stories that could be adapted to video, and we ended up using one of the student stories, adapted for film. Worked great. Cost nothing.

Sounds Great People POOLING Resources.. I have read many short stories to try and come up with something :) I also downloaded some scripts from "Trigger St" Where a lot of stories are done in final draft... Specificly made for Film ect I wanted to try and see how they did it.. Perhaps to give me Inspiration In writing something.. It would be GREAT as rafal said. If you could upload short film scripts to Chienworks. It would allow people to be more Creative with VEGAS...If they wanted to have a go making a short film..

I'm primarily a writer though I've started making my own shorts. So I basically write my own stuff. I know of a few others that do that as well.
I know a lot of writers don't want to let go of control of their work unless there is either money or a certain level of trust with the movie maker. You may not want your name to be on something that you have no say in.

I have really focused on learning the craft of writing for several years and from some other experience I do have a degree of talent in directing end. The next short I do is headed for the festival circuit et al, and next year I hope to pull off a feature length.
My problem is I don't have the equipment or very limited at least, and little of that is "the right stuff".

One thing I've noticed from other videographers I've met is that many are strong on technical skills but lack the creative side of things. I am NOT talking about ANYONE on this forum, I have just started posting here and enjoy the info here. Many have no inclination or desire to move beyond the wedding/event shooting, which is fine if that's what you want to do. It has its own disciplines but it is not movie making. So there aren't a lot of automatic inroads between the two communities.

Where are you located? If it's anywhere near the DC region let me know. I'd be willing to work with a different director if that person proves trustworthy. I got burned last year by a guy who was all talk and wouldn't do shit. He had over 50k worth of equipment and has never done anything with it.

I also know of guys in Richmond who are looking for a DP for an indie they are doing... For stuff like that check out Mandy.com. Also look into local writers groups. Just remember, writers can real a$$es when it comes to control of their work. Also post a notice up on Screenplay.com's message board.

Do you have certain ideas that you want to explore. If so, let's toss ideas around.

Hi there reid Writer HMMMmmm IT Sounds like your at the stage where You want a Film made By an experienced Film Maker .. Several years Of Learning You are at a Possible turning Point With a view to Making Money... This Is Not ME nOT yET...I Want to Improve my skills By making TEST Films.. But I dont want to devote a lotta time to writing Scripts, Just to test Myself with... Of course I could always just rip Off other scripts and do this In my own Home For my own private viewing.. But I find It more Satisfactory dOING SOMETHING THAT CAN BE mARKED.. And looked at by my Peers.. It can take a lot of effort just making something that lasts 3 minutes.. And very satisfying with the encouragement of others to see something from a different viewpoint. And Help in being sure in the course you set..If you want to see examples then go to www.vegasusers.com/vidshare/ "Chienworks"

I do have Ideas But first I need to Present a Portfolio, Of tried and tested Stuff that I can do.. So that I am Not questioned or Undermined On my Ability. Because IF I ever do MAKE A Film I would Be a Ruthless Director with a single Vision and would back up everything Im saying with Previous Work at amatuer Levels.

As far as Ripping Anyone Off is Concerned Im IN It for the Love of it and Money would Only ever be an Issue If the FILM was going Public on a BIG Scale..

So..

What am I looking for WELL If there are any Writers who Dont Mind Having there Work Used By Amatuers On a No Profit No Money Basis...To Improve with ! Then Who Knows Someone could Even Make a Film That Could Enhance Or further each Others Careers For Instance A Director could see a Film made this way and think AHH I like the Script But not the Film I knnow Lets Make A proper Film Using the Script Or Vice Versa Anyway Its More Strings to Your Bow And getting more People Interested Or Looking that wouldent Perhaps have Before..

IT would be made very clear that the Film AND tHE SCRIPT is Non Profit Only.At an Amatuer Level

I hope this Makes sense Because I really Only have A desire to Help every one who wants to make Films But is slowed or Prevented By Inexperience Or Lack of Ability in Other Areas

You really don't need a body of work in order to get your hands on a decent script. Everyone starts out somewhere.
And you don't have to emphasize the point about no money involved. It's customary for projects like this to be paid on "deferment". Just post ad and state that all pay is deferred, everyone who does that kind of stuff knows what it means. What is expected though 9 times out of 10 are "Copy, Credit, Crafts". Everyone gets a copy of the finished work, everyone gets a reasonable credit, and everyone gets fed or at least water and snacks.

I'm working on scripts that I plan to submit to major players and others that wouldn't pique their interest, but I just won't let go of. You can find plenty of people around you.

Especially in the UK, its much harder for a writer to get something made even in the indie fields. Start putting feelers out, and good luck.

No..

You dont need to really Have anything apart from the ability to sell yourself and this is where so many people come unstuck.. Talk is cheap.. I would not say I could do something Unless I know I could..

OK

This is My Criteria for making a Film..

What TOOLS have We got ? Can get 16MM... Second Hand Arris Perhaps ? 8mm... Or just DV Perhaps Edited Uncompressed then Bulleted for a Film LOOK Then sent of for turning into 35 mm Film.. OR Perhaps Filming with A DV Camera and a Film Camera...Yeah that'd be good Then editing in DV Then copying those edits On Film ect...

OK...

Lets say we made a decision Now lets have a look at storyboard ..Location... And Actors... Tie them all in For best use.... Meanwhile lets get some rehearsals going.. perhaps a DIRECTOR From the local Drama Club can Help out... We want to Inspire Confidence So lets get the Acting steadily more exposed to the Public...

What are the FX AND how can they be done BIG But cheap...Film Titles.. Armoury.... Lighting.... Sound recording... Costume... All have to be Syncronised and rehearsed for the Big day of FIlming...Back to the storyboarding.. Lets make sure everything is filmed In One hit, in each Location... So perhaps Two cameramen One as Backup and DIFFERENT ANGLES... One Sound recordist ...One Sparky... Actors... Assistants...FOOD.. somewhere to change.. AND a writer to perhaps help with the Continuity..

OK..

Now we have the Footage.. sound.. ect.. This is where The real work comes in.. All that Bad acting Lighting sound recording ect all Put right by the Heroic EDITOR :))) WORKING Continuously for the next 3 Months" Possibly" And Finally BUT MAJOR.. The Scoring..Perhaps the scoring will make or break the Film Now the Distribution and Advertising...

OK To organise this Lot you really have to Know what your doing or be able to delegate Otherwise 6 Months or Longer is a total Waste of everyones time You also have to be very firmly in Control. And any Knowledge Lacking will be used as a means for takeover bids or destructive behaviour.

I also realise You have to make do with what you have But You really should be as Prepared as Possible With good Planning and Unswerving determination even when its being drummed Into you this aint Working.. MAKE it work..

Hope I dident Miss anything
