Should I install bonus programmes?

Ross-Jackson wrote on 6/2/2021, 2:20 PM

I recently purchased a copy of Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum that included bonus programmes

Sound Forge Audio Studio 14

NewBlue Titler Pro 7 Express

NewBlue Elements 3 Overlay

Boris FX Sapphire 2020 Render Unit

There was a download link valid for 90 days. Within this time I have downloaded the programmes and have installation copies with the serial numbers.

I have installed Vegas Movies Studio 17, and am using it to learn video editing. As you may gather I am new to the programme and learning from scratch. Very enjoyable

As I have the bonus programmes, should I install them onto my system now? Is there a time limit for them to be installed by? I do not have the skill or inclination to use the programmes at present. Should I install and register them now? Or, can I install and register at a later date?

Regards

Ross

You are probably safe to leave SF14 until you need it. With the others it might be best to ask New Blue and Boris. Personally I'd install and register. You don't need to use them until you are ready.

Only SF is a stand alone programme. The others are additional third party add-ons to enhance your VMS "tools".

For what it's worth: I bought VMS build 221 with a similar set of add-ons. My install was fairly problematic. Vegas would go though its normal boot-sequence but when finished, the program never opened. I performed at least three install/uninstall cycles before I finally uninstalled all the add-ons except FXhome Intensity (I missed out on the Boris FX bundle when I bought), and only then would the program open normally.

Note that I began with a virgin SSD with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (and all current updates), and nothing else on the machine.

I was pretty suspect of Magix' bloatware-looking add-ons (e.g., PC checker). I'm guessing it's one of those which caused some kind of issue? I don't know. Personally, I would only install Boris FX and New Blue, and NOTHING else. However, SoundForge is really cool. I guess I will add that soon and see if everything is still okay.

Edit: Sorry, I thought you asking something different (i.e., system stability).

EricLNZ, Studio-4,

Thank you so much for your information and observations. I intend to do as you have both advised. I will install each programme as I need, subject to video knowledge.

My current machine only has the OS (windows 10, and Open office). Vegas Movie Studio 17 is my only major programme. Keeping it that way seems to be the safe option.
