Should the save as option with copy and trim ticked produce W64 Audio

I run V4.0

I have placed a trimmed portion of a clip on the timeline then saved it using the "save as" with copy and trim option ticked

(Note: The save audio as W64 is NOT ticked in preferences)

The resultant saved files are a veg file with the associated media file one being avi (with NO audio) the other the W64 audio

Is this the only and expected outcome??

Because when I double click or drag the avi to a new project I have to separately drag the W64 audi(same result if I drag them together - they dont sit above each other in Sync - they are offset)

Is it true that W64 audio files are a little more troublesome when rendering and burning??

I believe W64 files are exactly the same as .wav files however they don't have the 4GB limit of WAVs, that's why Vegas also renders a W64 file prior to PTT.

Does this happen? Yes, this is the default and only behavior of this function.

Should this happen? This is the subject of much debate and many of us feel that it shouldn't.

If you are opening up the newly created .veg file for future use then you will have no problems. If, however, you wish to use the resulting media files in a new project then you'll have to manually load both the .avi and .w64 files onto the timeline. They should sync perfectly if you line up the left edges.

As already mentioned they should line up perfectly if you have:
Quantize to frames on
Rripple mode off
Snapping enabled

Click anywhere on the video event to select it, press Ctrl+Alt+left arrow to place the cursor at the start of the event or double click on the event to create a selection. Now drag the audio, it should snap to the cursor position and line up with the video left edge.

Or
While working on the new project open the trimmed project in a new instance of Vegas, select both the video and audio events you need and copy them to the other project.
