"show trimmer" tip found at pcmag.com

Forgive me if you veterans already knew this, but I found this very interesting tip at pcmagazine.com's review of VF: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,7892,00.asp

..."click on Options and hold down the shift key while selecting Preferences. On the internal tab, find "Show Trimmer" and set it's value to TRUE. While you're there, set "Show Speed Control" (scrubber) to TRUE. The trimmer isn't really necessary if you import video from a DV cam and use automatic scene detection. The media pool is a much better place to organize your clips. But if you import long analog clips, the trimmer comes in handy."

Tried it, and it works. Very interesting!

Standard warning about the Internal Preferences tab:

DON'T MESS WITH ANYTHING IN HERE! ;) Yes, there are some interesting things you can set, like regaining the lost trimmer and scrubber. There are also lots of things you can easily change that will hose your Video Factory installation. So be careful! If you get yourself really messed up, you can always quit VF, then hold down the Shift & Ctrl keys while starting it again. This will reset ALL preferences to the default settings so that you'll be able to run VF again. Of course, this will even reset preferences that you wanted to keep. Oh well. Experiment at your own risk.

While I'll certainly honor Chienworks' "be careful", I am curious...

I tried this, but didn't see any apparent change in the interface in VF 2.0c build 125. Do I need to somehow activate or bring the trimmer window to the front? Is it accessible via a right-click or some other means when in the Explorer or the Media Pool? In other words, how do I get at the trimmer window itself after having changed "Show Trimmer" to true? (I believe I tried restarting VF after the change, but maybe that's it?)

Thanks.

That should be all you have to do. The next time you restart Video Factory, there should be a new tab in the line that contains the "Media Pool", "Transitions", "Video FX", "Text & Backdrops", and "Explorer" tabs. Click on the new tab labeled "Trimmer" to see the trimmer.

Also check out the added half and quarter speed previewing - And Reverse Previewing. If you gotta a mouse wheel you can use it to speed up and slow down and then go into reverse... Brilliant;)
