Shuttle Pro? We don't need no steenkin' Shuttle Pro!

Cool! I just discovered the mouse-wheel shortcut for shuttling video when your mouse is over the transport/shuttle section (under the video/audio track names on the Track List).

Now I've reprogrammed my MS mouse so the wheel button is the [SPACE] bar in Vegas. The result? One-handed, frame accurate shuttle with play/pause!

And, even better, it works in Video Capture, too!

Hope this isn't old news to you folks, but I was so excited I had to share!

Wow, I never knew about parking the mouse and getting the shuttle to work with the wheel. That’s great. Thanks,

After further experimentation, I have discovered two things:

1. When using this method in Video Capture, programming the MS wheel button to be {Enter} works better than {Space}. {Space} seems to sometimes put the DV deck into the "stop" mode, rather than the "pause" mode. {Enter} works reliably in both Vegas and VidCap. {Enter} is also handier for moving through FX dialogs in Vegas.

2. The scroll wheel works in opposite directions in Video Capture and Vegas! In VidCap, you scroll up to go forward, and down to go backward; Vegas is the other way around! Sony, please fix this in V5! I don't really care which way it is, as long as it's consistent!

bstanding :
there is an option in both vegas and the capture utility to make the spacebar play/pause instead of play stop.

Another trick, assign a mouse button to the ctrl key. Now press that button while over the playhead, I like this way of scrubbing a lot.

Yup. Got mine set that way. It seems though that if you accidentally hit the space bar twice in VidCap, you will drop out of "pause" and into "stop." As I said, {Enter} seems more reliable.

I like the idea of setting the {Ctrl} key to the mouse, but I'm running out of mouse buttons! (Not to mention fingers!)

I can't wait to show this trick to my Mac-addict friends! Hah! Try that in Final Cut Pro!
