Sidechaining to a VST possible?

ito-b wrote on 4/10/2020, 2:59 PM

Hi,

I have bought this VST plugin a while ago that basically craves the voice from the music as to let it cut through the mix.

But for it to do it's magic, it needs to be fed the music audio track sidechained.

Could this be done with Vegas? And if so, how?

Thanks.

VP does not support side-chaining natively. A very, very few select plug-ins can side-chain with VP. 'db audioware's Sidechain comp is about the only comp/limiter I have encountered that works with VP. I sort of recall Vegasaur has something for ducking. FWIW, I have requested side-chain support since the Sonic Foundry days pf Vegas.

I have some good news :)

I figured out how to do Sidechaining in Vegas Pro!

Go chech it out, DDMF Metaplugin.

It is exactly what we need!

Yes, unfortunately there is no side-chaining in Vegas, even though there is this nice Magix plug-in included that could do it... Maybe with version 18...

"Maybe with version18"

> Seventeen versions of Vegas (Pro), including the initial audio-only beta did not support side-chaining (despite numerous requests from pro-audio folks over the years) .. .so don't hold yo' breath.

You can do the Sidechaim (automatic audio ducking) effect in Vegas using the Audioware Sidechain Compressor VST Plugin and also using Vegasaur Voice Over feature.

@joelsonforte.br Yes, thank you, that is indeed commendable and possible... But it is a shame we do not have - yet - a proper native way to do it. :) There are some workarounds sure, but I find myself ending up doing manual leveling, using the volume automation. Sometimes volume envelope, like an after-effect.

Vegasaur cost 100$ !
For that price I will stop to use Vegas and go to DaVinci wich provide ducking possibilities for free...

I roundtrip some audio through Fairlight- it works pretty well and supports more VSTs than Vegas.

I am hoping there is a Black Friday sale on Vegasaur but haven't seen one yet.

I do the voice-BGM sidechain today in ACIDPro10 for my 5.1surround project.

In the past I did it as an AIO in VEGASPro (v8.0?) which is not really a sidechain, but if you can follow my demo-video, then you can understand what I've designed:
