Sidechains!!! one more thing missing on PC stuf in general

PipelineAudio wrote on 12/12/2000, 7:08 PM

We need software programmers to come up with something
resembling a " point and click " patchbay. So many routing
problems are involved in this stuff its silly.

FWIW, DB audioware has a compressor with a sidechain, some
forward thinking on their part, however, the compressor
happens at the wrong time to be useful for ducking. I make
copies of the tracks and move the side-chain control track
further ahead in time to try and make up for this, but
still it is no where near as good as a hardware unit.

The waves plugs also have the ability to sidechain from
left to right...

But how about some of the programmers come and see real
stuff being used in the real world?

Maybe then we can have some true solutions with little or
no compromise

Let's see where this one ends up.

What I would really like to see for the PC camp is a "Sound
Replacer" like the one that DigiDesign has for the Mac.

If you've had a project where the drums or percussion just
didn't quite scratch the itch, that can be one cool and
hellaciously useful application!

Those are some of the few times that time I start missing
ProTools.

KAC ...

BTW, Amanda ... be sure and thank 'Franky the Webmaster' over at
Mixtreme for making the fonts bigger for you. :)

Karl, I use a piece of software to do just that and it is
the MOST amazing thing !!!!

www.wavemachinelabs.com Drummagog DX

I am sure that in the past youve used a FORAT or D-Drums or
even the Alesis DM-5 to retrigger sounds from tape....those
are great, BUT

With drumagog...read this carefully: you CHOOSE the samples
it uses to replace the sounds with....for example, the Dm-
5, fprat and ddrums all fire the same sample every time,
regardless of the velocity, though the dm5 and d-drums will
turn up or down the sample depending on velocity level...

with drumagog, you record into drumagog 8 samples of 8
different velocities, so the actual sounds are DIFFERENT!!!

but wait theres more! if you are one of the first 100
callers...no no no...

Better yet, you actually record in THREE sets of 8 samples.
so for each hit of any velocity level, there are thgree
different sounds available wich are picked at random...

This way, you can even trigger drum rolls, which was
IMPOSSIBLE to do on a ddrum forat or wendel or DM-5 without
sounding all computerized....

you may think Im raving, but give it a try

since me and drumagog met, every time a drummer comes in
with a KILLER drum set, I make the drummer hit each drum
the required 24 times at the 8 different velocity levels,
and am amassing quite a drum sample library

Downloaded the demo ... haven't used it in the studio with
Vegas yet, but tried it here at the house with WaveLab and
it is pretty "incredible" thus far.

Thanks, guys.
