Silhouette

I am trying to create a silhouette of basketball action in Vegas 6 on my PC using Windows XP. My clip was shot during a game with the crowd appearing in the background. Is there a way to create the silhouette without having a single color background?

Any ideas?

Maybe this will help you out a little but I don't think that what you want can be done using Vegas unless you set up the shot for that to begin with.

I take that back, if your camera was locked down, you could place one instance fo the event on one track and another directly below it. On the top track, mask out the part you do not want to silhouette so that the bottom track shows through. Apply your silhouette effect on the bottom track while the top track remains original.

This may be more in line with what you are wanting, but without more detail, I'm not sure.

Not way really that I can think of apart from rotoscoping and that's going to be a lot of work even with the right tools.
If the camera was locked off and the background was static then you could use a difference mask.
If the background was say a colour that wasn't on the things you wanted to silhouette then you might have a chance using a chroma key.
