simple chopping?

any suggestions -

have a large number of interviews and though i could use the trimmer and make sub clips, it means i still have the whole tapes on the drive.

whereas this is fine in normal circumstances (there are normal circumstances with this job?), i have quite a few 1hr tapes that upon review have about 3mins of footage i need.

since this is hdv stuff and there's NO bloody batch capture, is there any simple chop program that'll work on m2t's WITHOUT re encoding or the like?

i have womble, but am not too sure how suited it is to this task.

i also realise i could use regions, but can i render to new files naming them independently, and not having them re-encoded?

doesn't vegas not render mt2's unless there's a change?

with 'no-recompress' on it does smart render, but the resulting files WONT print to tape (not that it matters terribly in this case, but if it didn't have problems, i probably would backup the useful interviews to tape for archiving purposes).

it also means i'd have to render out every take i want separately - pita.
