I recently started working with Vegas Video 4, and have what should be a simple question:
How can I ease-in on a selected clip? I've tried looking through the Help topics, but came up with nothing regarding "zooming in" on a clip, just the time-line.
I am not sure what you mean by "ease-in", but you seem you want to see the clip appear larger on the timeline. To do this, make the track that it is on larger by dragging it out at the bottom edge of the track header (on the leftmost pasrt of the track).
Once a clip is an event on the time line, it has a Pan/Crop button.
Clicking this will open a window where you can resize and position the frame where you want. This may take a little getting used to - play with it and watch the results in Preview window. Enlarging the frame makes the pic look smaller, and vice versa.
Down below is the Keyframe timeline, allowing you to animate your zooms/pans etc.over time.
So, to "ease in", make the frame smaller and position it where you want. Any time you want to return the pic to normal size, right click on the main Pan Crop window and select Restore.
Waldo,
Use the pan/crop tool FX tool. Place the cursor on the event (clip) you want to zoom on, right click, select pan/crop, in the pop-up window, look down at the bottom of the frame to find a little timeline. Click the marker that has a line and a little diamond after it (for the beginning of event) to set the pan/crop action at the start of the clip, then click the opposite marker (for end of file). Then, grab and drag the handles at the corners of the frame with your event in it to size the frame in the window to the point you want to zoom in on (making the frame smaller). You should be able to see it in the preview window of the timeline. Make sure the maintain aspect ratio and stretch to file frame blocks are checked in the window so your event doesn't get deformed. Now, close the pan/crop window and play the event. You should see the clip zoom in. Play with the setting in pan/crop and look at the help file to get more ideas. Also, two little diamonds appear on your master time line below the event. They indicate the start and stop point of the pan/crop. You can move them to make the motion start or stop at a different location right on the timeline without going into the pan/crop window. Just click and drag. Hope this gets you started.
