Thanks to all for an excellent discussion re TGAs - quite informative
It was recommended to keep certain files (like CG) as TGA when bouncing from app to app until final output.
How do you do this with Vegas? there seems to be no way to render to sTGA in Vegas 5 - or am I missing something in the Render As box?
Thanks again -- fultro

You do it via Quicktime.
Choose Quicktime in your output, then in the Render As dialog, choose Custom, and then in the Video Tab, Video Format, choose TGA from the options there.

you can do it faster by frame serving out of vegas to virtualdubmod and saving file seq targas ... about 3x the speed as saving it as a quicktime file and same quality ...

nothing wrong to saving it as a QT targa file also ....

So you are saying that this QT / Targa file is a higher quality way to go then say rendering to a new track using the Default NTSC DV codec?

it is much higher quality than dv for sure.... BUT if your source was DV to begin with , you are not gaining any quality .... EXCEPT if you plan on doing further work in apps such as shake or fusion or combustion or the like , then it makes sense
