Slide Show - Preview crops top and bottom of photo

My daughter and I are putting together a slide show for a closing ceremony at church this week with over 200 photos. We have the photos loaded and in the correct order with nice transitions for the program and audio. When we play the preview, the top and bottom edge of each photo is cut off. Is that an issue with preview mode? We tried Better and Best view with no improvement. We also varied the output resolution option from 1080 to 720 and also 480 with no noticable improvement.

We are using VMS 11.

We will be burning the slide show to a DVD to play on a computer that projects to two large screens in our church.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you

It's possible that the DVD playback software is cropping some of the edges from the image. It might be emulating the "overscan" feature of many television sets. What software is being used to play it?

Since it's being played on a computer i wouldn't bother making a DVD. I'd render it to a high bitrate MPEG-1 or MP4 file and use Windows Media Player or something similar to play it.

Most likely we'll be using Windows Media Player. But sometimes the A/V tech at church will just want to drop a DVD in the DVD player and project it from there.

Thanks for your help.

Just to close the loop. Making the Movie in WMV format still had the problem of cutting off the top. I was able to get some of it back by altering the properties in the Video Preview preferences. I changed the Action safe area to 0% (from 10%) and the Title safe area to 0% (from 10%) and that helped a bit.

The action & title safe areas should make absolutely no difference whatsoever. All those settings do is change the size of the dashed line overlay in the preview window, but they don't change the size of your media or rendered file at all.

Do you see the entire picture in the preview window while you are editing?

As Chienworks said, the title and action safe are only indicators to give you an idea of what will be cropped on a normal TV set. Standard def 4x3 TVs have always cropped the edges of the video, generally around 10% but it varied from TV to TV. If you saw a difference after changing it, I am sorry to say, it is because you wanted to.

If your video is being cropped in the Vegas preview window, it will be cropped in the files you render to. You need to resize your images so they fit on the screen the way you want. If you are going to be showing it on a TV, you need to allow about 5 to 10% of the outside area to be cropped. Even many HD 16x9 TVs crop some of the image.
