Is this camera living up to its advance billing? I've seen some DVX100 footage here and there, and it looks fantastic. I'm just wondering if anyone has any information regarding repair rates, robustness, form factor, glitches, etc.
My business has two of them and we have only been using them for event videography at the moment. We are using 60i for all of this and the images look fantastic; even in low light. We want to really use 24p for these, but have decided not to since 24p needs a controlled environment for the best results. I have had this camera for the past 3 months, and used it on 3 or 4 different projects since then. It was by far the best thing I have bought (with my limited budget) for my video production and web design business. There is still much to learn from the camera. BTW, I have had no problems with it....The camera just looks so "sexy" too =)
Do a search on "DVX100" and see the large amount of techinical info and largely positive feedback. I have a DVX100 that I'm shooting a low-budget feature film with this year, and I couldn't have made a better choice. My DP, who owns a $25,000 super 16 camera body with lenses, raves over this camera and is about to buy one himself.
Vegas is custom-tailored for DVX footage, as you have probably read already.
I've had one since early May and had rented one twice prior to then. It's a fabulous cam for the pricepoint. We're taking 2 of them to Guatemala this summer for a documentary. Excited to see how it performs in the jungle!
I have had mine since Dec. and have shot about 9 spots with it.
Clients at first wonder if I am shooting with a "Camcorder"
until they see the pic. Very Happy with it.
I got mine in Feb. Don't mean to be overly dramatic, but this camera has changed my (creative) life. Clearly a great tool for those interested in film look. And just a great all around camera - whether it's 24p or 60i. I haven't seen one negative review. check out the 2-pop DVX 100 user forum http://www.2-pop.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=PanasonicAGDVX100Camera
RE: The Guatemala comment above: I shot for 5 days in the dead of winter, one day outside for 6 hours, sub-freezing cold, snow and wet sleet everywhere, and not even a fog spot on the lens after we took my DVX100 indoors. Plus, the on-board XLR inputs are a definite coup over the competitors who have had notable glitches with their sound inputs, speaking of the XL1 and the PD-150.
P.S. Also do a search on 24p on this forum. Most of the analysis refers directly or indirectly to the DVX100. (When you shoot, if you use Vegas, shoot only in 24pA, for "advanced.")
