slightly OT: Correct settings for rendering then opening avi in Vegas- this aint working

I've been playing around with this for hours now and keep getting an error in Vegas that the file I'm trying to open, which was rendered in Red 3GL, is not supported. I've tried all sorts of settings and keep getting this message. Thought avi-vfw, composite over black (it's a title roll), deflickering 1:2:1 selected, video for windows would do the job. It isn't and neither is microsoft video, or "all files".
What's especially weird is that I've stopped a render halfway through and opened it fine in Vegas, but using the same settings and rendering out the whole thing- well Vegas says that is unsupported.
This is only a 1 min credit roll, but now the rendering is about 30min.
The same clip would render in Vegas using Boris as an fx in about 1 hour, so that's not really an option. So, can anyone tell me what settings to use if I want to render from Boris first before opening that avi in Vegas?
Thanks for any help!

You can use uncompressed, sequential TGA, sequential PNG, Microsoft DV, Canopus if you have the codec.

Spot- good to hear from you! I've been using uncompressed and it won't open in AE 5 either. Just rendered out a 10 sec piece that I made in Boris and it worked fine. Maybe there's some issue about things longer than that amout. Maybe there's some restriction they haven't told me about that requires regiistering before rending anything around that length.
Just tried quicktime and that DID work, though it doesn't look as good as it could. Maybe this is b/c I didn't select the 'deflicker 1:2:1' option.
I also just rendered a targa version, but I'm not sure how to open it. I selected all the individual frames and tried to open them together, but Vegas asked me where some other file was when I tried. Is there a trick to this, and how much quality would I be losing if I rendered to Quicktime?
Thanks again for the help!
