Slightly OT - Glitches in recording - farss?

Dear Bob ( and everyone else),

One of our DAWs here is having a problem in recording. After recording for 8 - 10 minutes (doesn't matter which program, Vegas, CoolEdit, SF etc.) it starts skipping. I remember once reading a post where some hard drive settings were outlined that had helped me. I can't find it anymore.

The box is 2 Gig, 256 RAM with an ESI Wave Terminal 92L sound card with Driver Version 5.01

Hm,
disable Allow Indexing Service?
I'd also do a surface scan, possibly the drive has a physical problem, the low level stuff will try to work around the problem but slow down in the process.

You are probably already doing this (and I'm no expert, by any means), but run msconfig and disable all start-up aps. I've solved similar problems in this manner.
