Slightly OT: jpg or png from DVD?

Couldn't find a thread on this, so please help.

Client wants us to extract several stills from a DVD. I've tried several screen shot utilities without success. I can grab the screen shot and open it in PaintShop Pro using XP's "Print Screen" function, for example, but I can't make any changes to the picture.

Interestingly, it does something I've never seen before. The screen shot opens in a window of its own. If I reposition the window the window moves but the image stays in place on the screen.

If there's no way to save a screen shot from the DVD as a jpg or png file, is there any way to import the files from the DVD into Vegas (4.0 or 5.0) and extract a few frames? Without importing the entire DVD?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Jack

The DVD player software you are using is displaying the video in the video card's overlay space, which isn't part of the main desktop display. This is why you're seeing the strange thing happening when you move the image around.

Some DVD player software has a specific "capture frame" button. I don't believe Cyberlink's PowerDVD does, but i have seen it in a few others.

If the DVD isn't encrypted you should be able to plop the .vob file onto the timeline and then use Vegas' still frame export function. This will probably be a very very slow process though.

FYI, CyberLink's PowerDVD does indeed have a "frame capture" function.
