Slightly OT: Memory Problems

Hi,
I'm using Vegas V9 Pro on an Intel quad core PC with 4gb of ram, using the latest update of XP.
I am getting "No memory" or "low memory" error messages on my projects when it seems there is still quite a bit in the tank. I dont think this is specifcally a Vegas problem as I'm getting it with Adobe After effects also & Samplitude 10 Pro, my audio application.
I know XP doesn't see the full 4 gb of ram.
Any help in changing memory settings or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Derm

I'm very unsure about this, but my Vegas 64 (and Vista64) seems to take up all my physical RAM (8 gig) but wont go further into virtual RAM. Changing my page file size doesn't seem to affect Vegas64 one way or the other either.

Is that normal?

Your 32-bit Vegas running on 32-bit windows ought to (on paper) be able to use no more than 2GB of memory. That memory would consist of a combination of physical RAM and page file. Other applications are limited in the same way and one could (again on paper) have a handful of applications all trying to use 2GB, in which case they all would be dipping heavily into the page file.

This is a pretty simplified view of it. You could get this sort of message if Vegas is using it's limit, or maybe if the hard drive where your page file resides is full, or it could be a misleading message from some library or component...Since you get the message from AE and Samplitude too you might check the state of the hard drives.

Normally, XP always uses some amount of page file. You don't really want Vegas to be hitting the page file too hard because that'll slow things down.
