Slip Edit shortcut keys?

Looking for help with Slip Editing. I am fairly new to Sony Vegas so bear with me

I have used slip editing (holding the Alt key and then moving the mouse left or right while hovering over an event) and it works fine and can be more precise if you zoom into the timeline. I have also used the Numeric Keypad shortcuts of 1 and 3 to move a clip one frame forward or backward on the timeline while keeping its length the same.

I recently saw a Slip Edit shortcut in my manual (hold Alt while pressing Num 1 or 3 to slip edit one frame forward or backward). I was hoping this keyboard shortcut would do essentially what the "Alt + drag the mouse" does, maintaining the clips original size AND position on the.timeline but move the "window" of what portion you see on a single frame basis. However, using Alt Num Key 1/3 does exactly the same thing as just pressing Num 1/3...it moves the clip one frame left or right on the timeline.

Does anyone else use slip editing and if so is there a trick to getting the keyboard shortcut to work?

I can confirm that I get the same behavior as you do. The Alt modifier does nothing and it acts just like numeric keypad 1/3.

The help file says that Alt+Numeric keypad 1/3 are supposed to be slip trim by frame. Therefore I assume this is a bug in Vegas.

I submitted a bug report to Sony.

I agree. I see the same behavior. Have never found a need to count the frames on a slip edit -- but couldn't you just

1. select the event
2 then use keypad 1/3 to move the event the exact number of frames left or right
3. and then just trim one end and extend the other?

Yes, you are correct in that I can do it the way you outlined, but when you end up doing numerous clips in that fashion it gets to be time consuming. All the videos I do will have many tiny clips (3-5 seconds each) and so I do a lot of slip editing to get them where I want. The shortcut key would save a couple steps on every clip I adjusted. Thanks for the input.

Good to hear, because this will only be corrected in future releases if they are notified, as apparently not a lot of people use this function.

Hey NormanPCN and Mont88,

I've replied to NormanPCN's previous post here with more info related to slip trimming (and other edge trimming workflows):

As for being able to slip an event with the keyboard, similar to Alt+mouse dragging on an event (not an edge), or when using VP13's new Slip tool, that's something we can review for future consideration.

Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated.
