Slo-Mo 4 Paupers Twixtor Alternative: SlomoVideo?

Soniclight wrote on 5/11/2013, 1:26 AM
I know that many of you grand poubahs (read: oh ye most revered pros) here suggest Twixtor to pull of smooth slo-mo and such. But it's pricey = USD $329.95 as of this posting. I found this OpenSource freebie from Switzerland (written as a thesis project at a Zürich technical university).

Anyone here used/have some experience with it?
If not this one, any other free to very affordable alternatives to Twixtor?
Thanks.

Thanks for the link. It looks complicated but I'm giving it a try.

GenArts Speedo is still available as a free public beta...that never seems to expire.

Thanks, Bob. I had downloaded Speedo a while back but not installed it for some reason. Have now done so.

" Bob : is it possible to push this beta to work again or where is updated download link ?"

Sorry I don't know.

When I was beta testing it and when I could get it to work it worked well.
GenArts did say this was a toe in the water beta to gauge how many Vegas users would be interested in this plugin. I did find quite a number of issues with it however GenArts pointed out that none of them happened in any other OFX host and I should refer the problem to SCS, like that was going to do anything.
At that point I more or less gave up on the whole exercise, all these types of plugins take ages to render so testing is tedious and time consuming enough.

All of that said it might still be worthwhile contacting GenArts, at least they do reply in a timely manner.

"GenArts Speedo is still available as a free public beta...that never seems to expire"Hmmm... I still have Speedo installed 'cuz I downloaded when the public beta was active, but my version now displays a watermark. Have you discovered a way to remove the watermark?

Sorry, no. I haven't used the system I installed it on for video for a while now and it blew a graphics card a week ago :(

I'd suggest we really need to bang on GenArts door however with the release of Twixtor they might have lost what little interest they had in the Vegas user market.

I was playing with the free MSU_FRC plugin for AVSynth works ok as a freebe.

http://www.compression.ru/video/frame_rate_conversion/index_en_msu.html

I need to find a better test subject but thought I'd give it something to think about.

Shot at 1080p 50fps 1/400 shutter cropped to 1920 x 816 as MSU_FRC likes multiples of 16 for height for some reason, converted to 200fps, MSU_FRC will attempt to calculate then missing frames, sharper the picture and better the contrast of the background the better not like how I've tested it :) pretty impressed with how it coped! Use AVSynth to run the filter on 4 and slow to get the extra frames, just use sony vegas velocity envelope on the time line to smoothly slow down and speed up project set to 25fps, no smart frame rate selected or it will blur.

Philip you can try motion perfect from GooderVideo

About 100 bucks Amer. And you can frameserve to it.
Clip with workflow that I found worked for me

Rory, very interesting. Have you tried their other programs like Steady Hand and Slow Motion? The price of this software piqued my curiosity.
Is Windows 7 supported?
Rory Cooper wrote on 5/27/2013, 7:57 AM
Mikey Motion Perfect works with Win 7 no problem

I did try out the Steady hand “curiosity” a while back I honestly didn’t pay much attention to the results because I have Mercalli and it’s easier to rip a clip straight on the timeline no export or frameserve.
As for the Slow Motion ap if I remember correctly it was same as Motion perfect but I could be wrong.

You can download the full operational version that pumps out a watermark on your clips worth a try.
MikeyDH wrote on 5/27/2013, 8:16 AM
Thanks Rory, I'll give it a go. I trialed the Mercalli standalone 3, but with such a short preview of what it does after analyzing I didn't know whether to pull the pin or not....Thanks again.

What's the difference between Motion Perfect, and Slow Motion Rory? The 2 seem to do the same thing??
Rory Cooper wrote on 5/28/2013, 3:13 AM
Oh yes I remember the difference between slow motion and motion perfect is.

SlowMotion will slow the clip down and then do the tweening or in-between frames .I said in my tut that this way creates artifacts as you are reducing the number of frames per second so now you have little to work spreading the frames out and then inserting new frames = artifacts are inevitable = not cool.

MotionPerfect will do the above but also have the option of keeping your frames intact as is and allow you to punch frames in-between converting 100 frames to 400 frames = much better = slower smoother less artifacts.

An open source, hardware-agnostic, GPU-accelerated optical flow engine that runs on Windows and most popular versions of Linux? For free?

Yes, please, and thank you.
