Just curious: What sound card do you have?

Is the sound card's sample rate set to unlocked or locked sample rate?

I use a MOTU 896 96k Firewire audio interface and I play back through that. I also use the C-major audio built into my Gateway Laptop (2003) and it plays back slow both times. I have tried both of those options. Any other ideas?

Here's a possibility: Soundcard was set to unlocked sample rate (grabs whatever is fed to it), Vegas is open and you are recording, system sound or sound from some other source resets soundcard behind the scenes to something other than the Vegas project sample rate, Vegas records audio file as 48k but it is really 44.1 (or some other rate force by the card).

Sound Forge can change the sample rate of files without re-rendering, so that's a way to fix this. To prevent it from happening again, I'd advise soundcard sample rate to be locked during Vegas sessions, and as a general best practice system and other alien sounds should be shut off completely during Vegas recording sessions (this last was recently covered in another thread).

I run my Echo 24/96 locked, never had a problem.

Anybody else ever run into this problem?
