Slow renders

Yesterday I loaded up a project that needed a few revisions (inserted four short sound bites). The total project length is 16 minutes and has text overlays and dissolves, but that's about it. A month ago this project took about 45 minutes to render, yesterday it took one hour and 45 minutes. It also took approximately as long to render an NTSC DVD MPEG2 file from the same project.

The only thing I've done to my system since the first time I rendered this project was to upgrade to DirectX 9c and update my copy of Windows Media to the latest version of 9.

I did a few tests and it appears that even a simple output of a straight video clip (with no effects) to an MPEG2 stream has slowed by amount the same ratio.

Has anyone else using DirectX9c and/or the latest Windows Media codec seen a system / render slow down?

By the way -- I haven't upgraded to XP SP2 as of yet.

I haven't upgraded WMP, but have upgraded DX, and am not seeing slower renders, but rather running in to out of memory issues. After 2 days of this on a 4 hour project, I'm ready to format at start all over.
