Slow waveform draw on win2k

Problem: When zooming into or moving waveforms, the screen
draw is slooooooow and jerky. This makes fine editing of
envelopes and timing of samples very tedious. This did not
happen on my 98 machine and seemingly should not happen on
my win2k.

Display adapter: Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS DDR 64 (!) with
Nvidia Detonator win2k 6.31 drivers - default settings
Display settings: 1280x1024 32bit
Display: Sony GDM 500PS

Now if I change the bit depth to 16bit, the problem
decreases in severity but still exists. I fear that it
will go away only if I change to 8 bit - blech.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Here is the system info:

While I can't offer you a definitive solution, I can tell
you that I do not experience the behavior you report on
either my home Vegas test machine; an older Compac Deskpro,
single processor 233 running Win2K Pro with only 96MB and a
Matrox Millenium built-in video adapter; or the studio DAW
with a dual 550, 256MB, Win2K Pro and a Matrox G400 DH
video card.

I would suspect offhand that your display adapter/video
drivers could be playing a big part in the behavior. Do you
really need the 32bit color resolution for audio
recording/editing?

Also, are you recording and playing back to the same drive
that your software/OS is loaded on and is that drive a
vanilla IDE?

That could be also be a contributing factor to sluggish
behavior as all these things tend to add up.

FWIW
