Slowing down the audio

Julius_ wrote on 11/1/2023, 7:22 PM

Hi,

I have this video file that was captured in 24fps (filming a super 8mm projector running at 18fps). The audio sounds like double speed. I tried the Time Stretch in the properties of the audio clip, but doesn't sound very good (still fast but takes forever to line it up with the video clip) I also tried the delayFX and not great as a result.

If I play with the sound slider called RATE 0.00, if I set it to .78 its sounds perfect (but the video will play slower).

I know that I will probably have sync issues with the audio/video.

Any other fx I could use or am I stuck with only these?

Thanks

Hi @Julius_ double-speed?
Are you stating the sound's pitch is affected as well as speed.

As @rraud  mentions, is it a speed issue or a pitch issue?

Double speed meaning they sound like little chimp monks :)

Yes, it's a speed issue..if I reduce to 78% (from the RATE playback) it's sounds okay.
I decided to use an audio recorder, and let Vegas play it at 78% and then use that audio file back into vegas.

You could also change the sample rate in Sound Forge to get the 'correct' pitch/speed, then resample to 48kHz for the video's sound track.
Changing the sample rate (not resample) is basically the same as using the pitch control on a analog tape deck, it changes both the speed and pitch.

How is sound forge acccess? I dont see it in the list of FX in audio

Magix's Sound Forge is a separate audio application that can be integrated into Vegas. Sound Forge is included with the 'Suite' and 'Post' versions of Vegas Pro. The Audio Studio version of SF is relatively low cost and includes iZ's Ozone Elements which can be used directly in Vegas as well as with SF.
I am sure there are other audio apps that will allow changing the sample rate and resampling back to the standard 48k audio for video.

Yeah, this works but it's a guessing game for the 35 clips that I have all in different time lengths.
