Sluggish VidCap Response

I just upgraded to a Pentium Dual Core system. Lots of RAM, HHD space, 256 meg video card, XP Home, etc...

Here's the problem... When capturing video from my GL-2 to Vegas 5 using vidcap, the buttons (FF, RW, PLAY, etc.) on the vidcap screen are slow to react. For example, when I click Play, the button does not activate until five seconds later... then the GL-2 responds. When I click and drag the search bar, the button doesn' t move for about five seconds, then moves to where I am holding the mouse cursor and the GL-2 responds. Basically, it's working, but not in realtime. I didn't have this problem with my old system.

Something you need to know... when I first plugged in my GL-2 to the new system, it said there was a problem installing the driver for my hardware, and that it 'might not work properly.' Technically, it IS working properly, but sluggish. I never had to install any special driver on my other XP Home machine - just plug and play.

It's frustrating, but not crippling. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

It might be a Canon / driver issue.

A producer client of mine uses an XL1, and we have never had any luck with capturing via Firewire directly from his camera. Sometimes it works, but most of the time I get errors or the system just ignores the camera. I now use a Sony DSR-10 to capture his MiniDV tapes and haven't any problems. In fact, we just finished an edit session capturing from 24 tapes for a Hurricane Katrina / Rita restoration video (for a local power utility) without a single glitch.

He just bought an XL2 a couple of weeks ago. I will give capturing via Firewire from it a try within the next few weeks and post back if it works any better.
