Small bits of trash on timeline

JJKizak wrote on 3/5/2003, 12:19 PM
Sometimes during editing some clips or text get smashed (resized) down to
the thickness of the cursor and get lost. Wondering if a small blinking arrow
or something pointing to the exact spot on the timeline to tell you to get
rid of the junk at this point is feasible or another one of my pipe dreams?

Nice idea - Bit of messy editor here! I try all sorts of things and yes, I leave a trail of garbage all over the place - not professional - but there again aint one! I can't readily think of a solution here - Picking all those things that need to be associated with the project? What shows in the Preview are the things wanted? Maybe that's the start of a thought about a "Filtering Script" - A type of "if it looks good I'll keep what I want!" type of script - Mmmmhhhh . . any JSers out there thinking on this one? What we need is a type of Hoover or sticky tape that keeps what we want and "disassociates" itself to the the dross - yeah?

We could then do a type of MAcro Group - move this down the TL and what is left behind we could "rummage" through to see if it makes any sense in keeping.

I'm really starting to get the feeling that anything is possible in V4! - maybe that's where I've gone wrong - Too much Too often Too available - Nah!

But good idea JJ

That's what zoom in is for. LOL!

What causes this to happen? Is it just sloppy work habits?

Hi Jay, all...

It isn't always sloppy habits... often events are hidden under others by rippling, or scraps can be left if QTF (quantize to frames) was disabled during editing.

An easy way to find bits and pieces is to view your Edit Details and sort by ascending event-length. Small scraps will be at the top of the column.

Larger scraps may be found by switching your track views to A-B mode and scrolling the timeline.

Zoom in until you see frame hashes on the ruler. Select a track and use Ctrl/Alt/R&L arrows to step thru edit points. I do this to check most of my projects for funky edits. Or you can click drag the ruler and horz. scroll the TL and watch all tracks. Marty's idea is great.
Editing on the timeline requires you to deal with all media you put there. Using other tracks to hold clips helps tons. But zooming is the key to seeing stuff.

Marty's idea is excellent. I have been zooming in like mad, and pressing CTRL-ALT and > or < and that finds them, then I click on them and just delete. But, Marty, you're a genius.

Or... just zoom in a couple clicks. If you can't see them then, you need to see your eye doctor. Quick. And yes... most are due to sloppy work habits.
