I’ve become totally addicted to the ‘Numeric Keypad *’ [Convert cut to transition] keyboard shortcut. It’s brilliant in combination with sliding crossfades and really makes comping a joy.

Only problem is that It’s such a long distance from the ‘S’ key all the way over to the ‘Numeric Keypad *’ key. It would be excellent if there was something like a ‘shift S’ keystroke that split the event with a crossfade rather than a straight cut.

YES!!!
They said already that they couldnt make a macro for this, but if they could find a way, it would make editing tom tracks so much easier. Like you could adjust and set the fade in and fade out lengths, then hit the keystroke and it would split and make both fades the way you want? that would be AWESOME

Have you tried the Quick fade for audio events pref?

Yes, and its perfect for 99% of the editing work. What I'd like to see is a easy macro, like CTRL-S or something which would allow you to define a separate in and out fade time than the normal split, say 10 ms in and 750 ms out or something. Then I could split normal in front of a tom track and then split special near the end, and I'd have a nice fadeout so the cymbal wouldnt get too whacky. For now I do the special fade by hand...this would just be a timesaver

Yep, I was thinking very much along the same sort of lines.

An idea I came up with was that you could hold down a key while dragging one edge of a transition and the other edge would move in the opposite direction. So you could easily shrink or expand the transition in one step.

...And/or perhaps you could hold down a key while hovering the mouse over a transition (or any fade) and spin the mouse wheel to shrink or expand it.

The trouble with quick fade is that it's so large, you can no longer see the attack portion of a drum sample or something else percussive. Make an adjust to try and find that point again and quick fade appears again blocking out that start point once again! So I leave it turned off.

There should be an option to set the quick fade to samples rather than milliseconds. Even down to a length of a few samples. That's all you need to create a zero crossing point to avoid any clicks. Which is the only reason I do these really tiny fades.
