That's an odd one! But no remote control, which is definite need for me.

May I ask why do you need a remote?
MikeLV wrote on 1/5/2014, 9:32 PM
to start and stop recording in rough sync with the other camera.. makes any edits on the timeline easier.

Check this out Canon - VIXIA mini Flash Memory Camcorder it has a remote.

Another strange looking camera, might have some potential. But does it have the standard threading for tripod or other mounting ability? It says it has its own tripod built in. Remote appears to be another wifi app, hopefully better than Sony's app which wasn't all that great at all.

"A dash can might be a good way to go but I see two problems you would need to work out. #1 dash cams come with a 12 volt power cord now you need your own 12 volt power supply. #2 most dash cam I have seen record 5 minute files and there is no software that I know of to piece it together like we do with AVCHD files."

#1, wrong. Many such as the one below have an internal battery.
#2, not so certain about, 4GB is a lot of video so rarely a problem.

Keep in mind that's $100, there are better available for more dollars but they get bigger.

Now that I think about it rigging an external battery wouldn't be all that hard which opens more opportunities.
As for remote start / stop to ease syncing keep in mind these cameras do record audio that's usable for that purpose.

The real challenge here isn't cost or features, it's getting all of it into a small enough and light enough package that a guitarist will tolerate having stuck to the end of his axe.

Bob.

Check out this guy's YouTube page, he has reviews of all kinds of small video cameras, one of which might suit your purpose.

Maybe OT - sorry - but:

I have had several versions of the 808 keychain-cameras for model helicopter flying (and crashing) - and for the price they are surprisingly good (and solid).

There is an interesting technical site about them here: www.chucklohr.com - also with warnings about where to buy because these cameras seem to exist in an original version and some lower quality fake-copy versions too.

>Check out this Sony hdr-as30v very small but has allot to offer.

Jerry, this piqued my interest. I have been casually looking for an affordable cam that I could use for the following:
1. Stationary cam for weddings that had reasonable low light performance at 1080p30.
2. 120fps for golf swing slow mo's.
3. Helmet cam for skiing.

I looked at the hdr-as30v, but then made my way to the hdr-as15v which is available for $179 at amazon, or for $248 with a cradle that provides an lcd and tripod mount that lets you use it as a conventional cam. Also, I ran across this interesting YouTube video from DSE who apparently has the hdr-as15.

So, I am getting ready to pull the trigger and try out my new Amazon Prime trial subscription.

Thanks for your post.

The AS15 is the one I'm sending back to B&H today. They had a special on it for $129 around Christmas. I wish it would have worked out because it's a great price. I contacted the guy on Youtube, he told me to watch his next review he's going to put up as he thinks it's just what I need so I await...

Wow, I"m surprised Sony is coming out with another action cam, the AS30 came out fairly recently. Wish it would have worked for me. That technoman guy hasn't posted his next review yet he told me to watch for...

Sony Wrist band Design Wi-Fi Remote With LCD Monitor for Action Cam.
If you already own a action cam and don't like tying up your smart phone this may be a good option.

I paid full price for the original GoPro just before they came out with the next edition. There have been two more issues since. I kick myself every time I think about it. The camera is workable but these action cams have come a long way in a short time. I'm looking at that Sony 30 with the live view remote for outdoor applications.

Mike, I wish I had got it for the $129 price. One of the things you didn't like about the AS15 is the requirement to use the plastic housing to get a tripod mount. Fortunately, the LCD cradle I purchased has a tripod mount, and the wifi problem won't be an issue for my intended use. The cam should arrive today so we will see if it works for me.

PS - how was the battery life on the AS15?

How is the low light performance of the GoPro Hero+ compared to the Sony as15 or 30's?

RE: " It's going to *somehow* be mounted to a guitar to show the guitarist's perspective of the neck, i.e. if you were the one playing the guitar. "

I'm trying to understand what you really hope to accomplish.

A camera mounted on a guitar, would not provide a view of the guitarist's perspective of the neck.. ???
