You're right, I removed XDCAM EX smart render in an update to VP12, sorry. It never worked quite right and often caused render hangs so we regretfully chose to disable it. I'd love to bring it back because it was *fast* and worked right 90% of the time, but we haven't had the opportunity to fix it properly...

On the other hand VegasPro13 does enter the XAVC Intra codec with smart-render possible? Perhaps XDCAM transcoded to XAVC as the intermediate is a great option - waiting for some reports.

thanks chris for the reply, much appreciated.

am waiting to read of experiences with xavc too videoitguy. my none too scientific tests with xavc proved it slower / larger file size than xdcam.

however, i'm happy to read others experiences....

Hi Chris, if at all possible, I would really like to see XDCAM EX smart rendering put back into the product. I really miss it, as that is the only format that I shoot and it saved me a huge amount of time. Though you say it worked only 90% of the time, for me it was 100%. I would gladly take my chances even with a partially broken feature.

apparently ppro and edius smart render xdcam?

have i misread this info (gained on a number of forums), or even sony's own 'workflow'

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/webhelp/vegaspro/12/ENU/Content/XDCAM_EX_Workflow.htm

i can't understand why the most effective (from my pov*) codec has not been fixed to smart render.

PLEASE chris, can't we have it back - broken or not and we'll take our chances....

*with hours and hours of interview material from an ex1 that requires constant simple cut to cut re-editing there is nothing as fast or efficient as xdcam - or if there is, i'd like to know which codec it is....

+1 Please can we get it back? If I had the money to fly Madison, I would even grovel for it in person.

Fixing the smart render takes something currently working, render XDCAM EX, and makes it work better/faster.

They probably have a good list of items that flat out have real problems, and those will get priority.

That is my take.

I would not hold your breath. Something like the font problem in Titles and Text has been an acknowledged problem for over a year and a half. Never making it onto the gets fixed list.
