SMS 12 & NewBlue Titler EX (default install) crash

skeeter123 wrote on 10/5/2012, 12:40 PM
I get repeatable, somewhat random, crashes of SMS 12 when "Editing Generated Media"

Am I alone? Workarounds/fixes/suggestions?

thanks!

Edit: Just dragging the NB titler (generic) to the timeline will crash it, too. Not good. Don't think I'll be upgrading, or buying any more styles for this one....unless I can get it stable...

What are your cpu specs, especially your GPU?
skeeter123 wrote on 10/7/2012, 11:02 AM
CPU: Intel i7 model 2600k

16GB DDR3 RAM

Windows 7, 64 bit

Video Card:EVGA Nvidia GTX 580 1.5GB, Driver: 301.42

Thanks!

Edit: Uninstalled/Re-installed the NB pack...was better, then started same crash behavior..

Drag the New Blue Titler a video clip - that tid bit is hidden in the help files. Also I turn off the view preview. It does seem a little slow but it does work for me.

I'm on a 6 core AMD/ATI with 1 gig memory/ 16 gig's memory, lots of disk space.

Thanks, D7K....a little clarification please:

"Drag the New Blue Titler a video clip" should that be "...to a video clip.." as in actually on it or, over it in a Text or Overlay track?

(looking at the help file now...)

D7K, Titler Pro is both a Generated Media and an Effect. So you can use it just like all the other titlers as a Generated Media. However, you can also add it to an event as an effect.
D7K wrote on 10/8/2012, 7:06 PM
But I've found that it works best on my setup directly added to a video.

If you read the help file it states explicitly to use it on a video.
jetdv wrote on 10/9/2012, 1:05 PM
Straight from the help file:

TitlerPro can be added to your project in multiple ways. The easiest way to get started with TitlerPro is to use it as a Media Generator.

and then later in the help file:

Additionally, Titler Pro can be added as an effect to any event, track, project, or media by clicking on the FX button or dragging from the Video FX tab.

So where are you reading where: "it states explicitly to use it on a video"?

Titler Pro does not ship with the NewBlue plugins - it's a dumber version called Titler EX.

Here's the quote from the help file:

TitlerEX is added as an effect directly to a video clip. When used this way, the Titler project will be overlaid on top of your video

If I recall, JetDV is affiliated with NB...

I think the main intention is for titling. I use it routinely as a Media Generator. You do need a good cpu and graphics card for it..

It's true, D7K, if you follow the Help files. But NB Titler EX is also listed under Media Generators, and works both ways for me.
jetdv wrote on 10/10/2012, 10:42 AM
It's more flexible than the regular titlers because it can be added as either a generated - just like all the other titlers - or it can be added as an effect. Either way will work - you don't have to use it as only an effect.
skeeter123 wrote on 10/11/2012, 8:13 PM
Well, either way (NB Titler to "text" "Video Overlay" or to the clip itself), it crashes regularly...for me...and to me, this really needs work...not new features...the best feature for me is stability. I use four other NLEs and by far this is the buggiest....YMMV of course. On the plus side, it never crashes during a render....(hope I didn't jinx that!)

Did anyone see anything in my system specs that might be suspect? Win 7 is up-to-date...(motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68MA-DH2-B3) I can provide more info if needed...

Thanks!

Start a help ticket at newbluefx.com for help with Titler.

I have been experiencing the same problem with SMS 11 HD Platinum and NewBlue TitlerEX. Have a trouble ticket in with NewBlue and a dialog with them going on now for the past 5 weeks. They say they do not know why I am having this problem. Their only suggestion so far is that they do not have an updated TitlerEX for my version of Vegas but there is a new build available for SMS12. They also suggest upgrading to Vegas Pro. Right!
IMy problem occurs whenever I try to select on of the "Starter PAck" effects or transitions from the library OR if I select the STYLES button within the titler window in CUSTOM...Vegas crashes immediately. I just uninstalled Vegas and reinstalled the earlier build version and get the same problems. I uninstallled and reinstalled the NewBlue TitlerEX plugins and still get the same crashes. Hope some solution can be found as it looks like some do not have this problem and some of us do.
skysailor wrote on 10/15/2012, 10:25 AM
I uninstalled all of the trial versions of Video Essentials and now the Starter Pack choices are not crashing Vegas. However, using the STYLES button to the left of the Font button on the TitlerEX window still crashes Vegas. Not a big deal as I can get to the Styles list via the Library Tab and they work fine from there.
Perhaps this is helpful for some who are having similar problems.
jetdv wrote on 10/15/2012, 11:58 AM
Is clicking on the "Styles" button instead of clicking on the "Library" tab a common issue? I'll admit I always click on the Library tab and don't typically click on "Styles".
mike_in_ky wrote on 10/16/2012, 5:26 PM
Clicking the Styles button near the font also kills SMS 12 on my system.
skeeter123 wrote on 10/16/2012, 8:08 PM
Update: Working with NB on my crash issue. They gave me a new version of the titler to try. No love. Next...

Clicking the Styles button near the fonts button does not crash mine. But, that was never an issue on my system...just thought I'd try it....
jetdv wrote on 10/17/2012, 10:21 AM
Mike, start a help ticket and NewBluefx.com so we can assist you.
skysailor wrote on 10/19/2012, 8:47 AM
NewBlue closed my ticket without notification after they had provided me various versions of Titler to try and report back the results. Last version they provided me was NewBlueSonyVegasMSPPS12Setup14-121008.exe and that (trial version) worked on my system within Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum without crashing Vegas when selecting the STYLES button. In fact, I tried many operations and nothing crashed Vegas. I have open a new ticket referencing the original one to see if I can get a solution that will stabilize my existing NewBlue/Vegas software suite.
skysailor wrote on 10/19/2012, 9:40 AM
NewBlue reopened the ticket and has resolved my issue with a version of TitlerEX that is compatible and does not crash Vegas Movie Studio 11.0 HD Platinum. I would like to add the tech support was very responsive and helpful and the ticket was only closed because they believed my issue was resolved. I misunderstood about the version they supplied being a trial version. I am now a happy customer of NewBlueFX.

I seem to be having much better luck now that I have set Dynamic RAM preview to 0 (zero). Stay tuna'd...

Edit: No sooner did I post the above that it crashed when I edited an existing title.. go figure!
