SNAFU

I previously posted about whether to upgrade to Vegas 6.

Thank you to all those who responded.

I have decided to go ahead, mainly because I can see that the forum has again degenerated into the pre-release mudslinging we've come to expect of late.

Therefore everyone must be back at work editing, and using the new release, and having few problems with it, or we wouldn't have time for this stuff.

Don't misinterpret silence for compliance. After a disasterous first few days with 6, I'm back at work editing with Vegas 5. I suspect there are many people doing the same thing, biding their time for the Vegas 6 patch. Even then, it will be a VERY slow and measured transition to the new tool. I'll put it on my backup box and work with it on smaller projects or composited items going into larger projects. Once I'm satisified it's reasonably stable, then I'm make the move back.

Keep us posted on your switch-over.

Even in the USA people should be hearing me pacing my lofty parapets citing (loudly)

" To Vegas 6 or not to Vegas 6 that is the question ?? "

Do I gamble that the upgrade is worth the $220 and buy NOW before the upgrade prices rise at the end of the month or wait until the bugs are all ironed out and the money will be spent on something that is far better than what I'm using now like a new camera/soundcard/external HDD

all $ quoted are Aus$ ( today US0.75c = A$1 )
and I know that a new camera is going to be more than the cost of the upgrade but it could be a 10% deposit

Well, I just finished a rather complex 32 minute piece. I found a VFX not working, but that was the extent of difficulty that I had with it. I used 24 nested timelines in the project. That does not mean that it is bug free. It means that I found it to be stable and of little risk using it. Folks have found problems and Sony is addressing them I am sure. I just didn't find them to be anything that shut me down. The advantages of 6 far exceeded any problems.

BTW, a way to explain complex, is that the final render took 2 hours for a particular one minute section. I was pushing the pixel processing pretty hard. The end result was pristine. With any other NLE I would have been jumping from app to app to do different parts. That is riskier than V6.
