Snap to loop points... no longer working?

Liam_Vegas wrote on 6/2/2005, 6:14 PM
I'm sure I saw a post about this the other day.... just can't find it now (I bet after posting this it'll suddenly jump out at me 10 posts below :-)

Anyway.... I'm looping a background clip and in V5 you used to be able to very easily extend the clip and you would see the little triangles appear. Cool thing was the clip would sort of "snap" or gravitate to the loop points... allowing you to very easily extend the loops to a precise "looping point".

That seems to work differenlty in V6.0b. You still get the tirangles... but now you don't snap to the loop points as you are extending them.

This is NOT related to snapping on the timeline - all that works just fine... it is ONLY where you are trying to extend a loopable AVI file.

Anyone else see this? Is there some new option to enable this sort of "snap/loop"?

It's a real pain currently to extend my loopable backgrounds as you have to zoom way in to make sure you have the loop point on the specific end of frame of the loop.

Thanks

Liam - Repro-ed here in London.

Vegas 5 I get a visiable and "feel" that stretching the loop kinda resists at the end of the loop, notifying me that it has come to the end of the loop and making me stop stretching. In Vegas 6 this is not happenning. I have to really be careful about where I end the

s - t - e - t - c - h

otherwise I end up with

s - t - e - t - c - h - s

or even worse!

s - t - e - t - c - h - s - t - e

As I said, Vegas 5 has this resistance to the end of the loop being moved. In Vegas 6 it is remaining smoooooooth so I don't know where I am.

I still LOOOOOVE VEGAS6 !

In fact, within Vegas 5 I can get tot he end of the stretch, the LOOP stops dead but the mouse cursor can continue on by what appears to be about 1 or 2 frames in each direction. THIS warns me that I've reach the end of the clip.

Can we have this back Sony? Please?

Grazie... I guess it wasn't just my imagination then after all.... oh boy... I do hope there is a work-around before there is a bug fix. It's only a simple thing... but it really is a pain that it does not do what it used to.

you know what else is missing? when dragging an event, then holding down the SHIFT key, you can bypass the frame snapping, giving you a smooth edit point. you can't do that now in v6b. can we please have that back as well sony?

I also noticed the lack of snapping on the end-of-event/triangle, but when I zoomed in on it much more, it did snap, but it took a larger than normal zoon.

Definietly not as crisp as 5.0.

Same problem here, the beginning loop point snaps but not the end one, hope it'll get fixed...
Grazie wrote on 6/3/2005, 8:45 AM
Nat, I'm real sure they'll get it fixed. G

Related to the 6b "bug fix" where they took away the hold-shift to bypass snapping feature?

hmmm.

Still a V5 user and proud of it!

so F8 is enable snapping, 'alt-F8' is quantize to frames. this is the effect that I said was missing. You just need to press a few more buttons to get that smooth movement of events.... more buttons to press... that's too much work already.

Someone should use the email support feature to report this to Sony. They don't always read these posts ...

This bug is already in their database according to a developer I talked to....
